„no risk, no fun“
Well, the CAE exam sounded catchy when my teacher first explained what it was about and I decided to just jump right into this challenge. Half of our 8th class students did so as well although the exam is said to be more difficult than the Matura. Plus, you have to pay for it in advance with no guarantee of success. So, it is definitely a bit of a risk to do it. However, no risk, no fun.
And obviously it is well worth it because it will hopefully improve our chances of studying or getting a job in the English- speaking world later on.
I barely slept before taking the exam and was very nervous throughout. You must understand that while taking it you have no idea whether you have already screwed up and as the exam is structured in multiple components it leaves lots of time to think about previous exercises. While writing the text I was suddenly told that the second text had to be written on another page or it wouldn‘t count. Adrenaline rushed through my veins. I had only 20 minutes left to write this text. Luckily this ended well.
The CAE exam means a lot to us because it was challenging, stressful and truly tested our abilities in English. It required us to study hard in addition to our regular work in school. I guess, we can all be proud of it. And last but not least, thanks to our teachers for the excellent preparation and assistance.
Clemens Wibmer, 7A
